2025 INDUCTEE EARL HUFFMAN

After retiring from the United States Air Force, Earl Huffman turned his energy to business, first in Hudson car parts and soon after in bicycles. By the late 1970s, his two-car garage in Bellevue, Nebraska, was overflowing with frames, tires, and handlebars, giving birth to Huffman’s Bike Shop, which would evolve into the iconic Earl’s Bicycle Factory.

Earl had a natural instinct for what riders wanted. He recognized that BMX was more than a trend—it was a movement. Selling bikes and parts out of the trunk of his car at local races, Earl became a trusted source for everything riders needed, from grips and pads to frames and forks. His shop stocked the latest BMX brands, including Kuwahara, Redline, GT, Torker, and SE Racing, making Earl’s a destination for riders across Nebraska and the Midwest.

Earl’s influence went far beyond sales. He sponsored countless racers, creating the Earl’s Bicycle Factory Race Team, which featured future local legends such as Anthony “AC” Chambers, Wade Uldrich, Gabe Giraud, Scott Ackerman, Randy Frost, and Gene Ormond. Known for spotting talent, Earl connected Anthony Chambers to the Kuwahara National Team, helping both the rider’s career and his shop thrive.

By the early 1980s, Earl’s Bicycle Factory had grown from a garage into a bustling Quonset hut near Offutt Air Force Base, packed wall-to-wall with bikes, accessories, and gear. Riders recall the massive selection of Vans and Airwalk shoes, as well as the welcoming, fun atmosphere Earl created. His humor, mentorship, and passion made everyone—from beginners to pros—feel at home.

Earl and his wife Kay ran the shop as a team, building not just a business but a community. Though Earl passed away in 2008 and Kay in 2024, their legacy endures in the memories, friendships, and careers they helped nurture.

For his entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to BMX, and lasting impact on generations of riders, Earl Huffman is a proud inductee into the 2025 Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame—a true pioneer whose influence helped shape the foundation of Nebraska BMX.
