2012 INDUCTEE SCOTT ACKERMAN
Began Racing in 1986. Earl’s Bicycle Factory Team Rider.
Scott Ackerman began racing BMX in 1986 at the Bellevue, Nebraska BMX track. He bought his first BMX bike from Earl’s Bicycle Factory, but it was a Freestyle bike so he borrowed an old beat up race bike and proceeded to win his first three races in a row to turn Intermediate. His winning started right away and never stopped. Scott is one of the most talented riders ever from Nebraska.
By 1987 he was winning big races on a National scale including the ABA Race of Champions in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the 1988 ABA Winter Nationals he doubled and turned Expert.
Scott was the Nebraska State Champion in his age group six years in a row from 1987 to 1992. He was Nebraska District Number One on 20 Inch three times and once on Cruiser. He also finished National Age Group #9. Scott turned PRO in 1992 and achieved success on the ABA PRO circuit at Nationals.
Throughout his racing career he rode for some famous Nebraska teams including JerryCo, Earl’s Bicycle Factory, GRIZZ and Top BMX Pro Shop.
During the early 2000’s Scott and the Nebraska Downhill MTB Team competed in Downhill MTB races on the Colorado circuit. The Colorado riders were amazed one year that Scott was the series points leader. How could a Nebraska rider from flat land be leading a Mountain Bike Series?
Scott was inducted into the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame on August 18th, 2012.
