In Memory of Bernie Cech

Bernie Cech contributed to the early days of BMX in more ways than you can count. He helped build the first BMX track in Nebraska – Yankee Hill BMX. He volunteered countless hours to Yankee Hill and the Lincoln YMCA tracks. He hauled dozens of kids around the U.S.A. in his yellow BMX Van. He ran the starting gates at both tracks and would always lend a hand at Spinnin’ Spokes BMX and Gnarlsbad BMX. Words like “Best BMX Dad”, and “Every BMXers friend” say it all about Bernie. Bernie was inducted into the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame on August 21st, 2010.

Bernie and his sons were the heart and soul of the original Mr. Bike Team. He organized the riders, gave them rides to the races and coached not only his team, but even gave the Omaha riders encouragment and support. We all felt like he was one of us, not some parent that you couldn't talk to. He really loved BMX racing and it showed in everything he did.

Mr. Bike had a second phase in the late 70's with new uniforms and many of the same riders like Dave and Tony Cech, Todd Frauen and Jerry Jensen. By this time Bernie had taken over ownership of Mr. Bike.

Bernie was a friend to riders, parents, sponsors and anyone involved in the early days of BMX racing. Thank you Bernie. We miss you.
