Todd Calfee was an original member of the Freewheelin BMX Race Team from Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a pioneer in the sport during the early days of Bicycle Motocross racing. He raced in the American Bicycle Association. Todd was known for his track speed and fearless riding ability at a very young age. He was picked up by the national Powerlite Factory Team after winning the ABA Number One Plate for the state of Nebraska in 1980. Todd was inducted into the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame on August 21st, 2010.

Todd began racing at the Lincoln YMCA track in the mid 1970s. By 1978 he was winning his age class on a regular basis in Lincoln and throughout the Midwest. He was a shining star on the Freewheelin' Bike Shop team. When the Freewheelin' Team added Rex Reason, Joe Baumert and Tim Lillethorup in 1980, Todd and the team earned the "Team Trophy" award at any race they competed in.

During the 1980 season, Todd racked up more wins and enough points to earn him the title of ABA Number One rider in Nebraska. Todd was selected by the Factory Powerlite Team after that remarkable winning season.
